Planning your perfect road trip

If you’re looking for something a little bit different for your next holiday, a road trip could be just the thing. Rather than focussing on the destination, when it comes to a road trip, it really is about the ride itself. Whether you’re taking a trip across the French Alps or down America’s Pacific Highway, there’s always a lot of fun to be had on a road trip.

As with holidays of any kind, a successful trip is usually reliant upon thorough planning. Here, we consider a few things worth thinking about when planning your perfect road trip.

The scenic route

A road trip is different to most other kinds of holiday because every step of the way is important. Not only will you be keen to plan a trip which takes you through a number of interesting stops but you’ll want to ensure that the route between each stop is enjoyable. This means looking into what the driving roads will be like, paying particular attention to how scenic each route may be.

The right car

It doesn’t matter whether you’re going away for a long weekend or several months, one of the most important factors on a road trip is the vehicle you drive. Browsing through AA Used Cars, you’ll want to pay attention to the number of people on your trip, the fuel economy you’re after and the kinds of terrain which you’re looking to meet.

The best accommodation

The last thing you want during your trip is to struggle finding accommodation. For this reason, it usually pays to do a little research into accommodation before you leave. Having a number of possibilities lined up along your route will ensure that you’re never far from somewhere to stay.

When possible, it’s advisable to book ahead to avoid uncomfortable nights spend asleep on the backseat!

Sharing the load

The company you choose to travel in will have a large impact on your enjoyment of the trip. Be sure to travel with other drivers who are willing to share the load and responsibility. You’re sure to be spending a lot of time on the road, so it’s important that you are able to share the driving to ensure that you get the most from your road trip.

Remember to ensure everyone is covered to drive the car and check for any rules or regulations you need to follow when driving on roads either at home or abroad.
