Travel Photo of the Day: Student Prison, Heidelberg

Naughty students attending the Heidelberg University were imprisoned to atone for their transgressions. While it started as a serious punishment, over time it became an important item to cross of the to-do list that made up a full university experience. It also inspired many artistic endeavors, some in color, others just black and white scribbles, candles being the preferred tools.  Each cell is a work of art and I had a lot of fun visiting this part of the university.

A good way to make use of the time – even when punished 🙂

  2. Yeah, they got pretty creative! They had this special entrance to the hall where classes were held and they were forced to attend them all 😀

  3. Different times, different concepts of education. Interesting post.
