Fewer Tourists
One of the obvious advantages of traveling outside of peak season is that you avoid getting caught up in the crowds that swarm the streets of Paris in the summer. Say goodbye to queues at art galleries and view the Eiffel Tower, and hello to a city that seems yours to explore.
Illuminations
Paris is also known as The City of Light, and this could not be a more accurate description than in December. The entire capital comes alive at night with festive lights and illuminated historical attractions.
One of the best ways to view the lights is by going on a river cruise along the Seine, which gives you the full sense of romance and grandeur of Paris as you sail slowly past the likes of the Louvre and Notre Dame glowing against the skyline.
Another fantastic experience is to visit the Jardin de Plantes for the annual illuminations event, where enormous sculptures of animals are erected within the picturesque gardens. This year the theme is ‘Mini-Mondes en voie d’illumination’ – The World of Miniscule in Large – and the event is running from 14th November 2022 to 15th January 2023.

Winter is theatre season in Paris. Tourists visiting the city between November and February have the chance to see incredible world-class performances, from spectacular operas to magnificent symphonies. Best-loved is the ballet which is often an interpretation of the The Nutcracker, complete with dazzling costumes that will delight adults and children alike.
Outdoor Skating
For a romantic evening that is a bit more active, go ice skating at one of the limited-time outdoor rinks. Soar over the ice with your loved one as the stars shine in the sky above, and follow the experience by cozying up with a warm drink. Two of the most scenic spots are the Eiffel Tower ice rink and the rooftop rink at La Défense, which offers breathtaking aerial views of the city.

Now a common feature in most of the continent’s cities in December, these winter wonderland pop-up markets originally hail from Germany and are universally beloved for the delicious traditional fare, unique local crafts, and enchanting atmosphere.
