Amusement parks, rides, and fun in the sun are what draw most tourists to Orlando, Florida. But even within those popular theme parks, there are underrated attractions you should certainly give a try. After you’re done exploring the in-park rides you otherwise would have skipped, it’s time to explore further and do all the amazing, awe-inspiring things others have missed. First make sure you book a hotel that’s close to everything — Grande Villas Resort is one of our favorites — then get ready for your adventure!

What You Are Missing in the Amusement Parks
There are the popular rides, shows, and restaurants, and then there are the overlooked ones. Yet, how famous a theme park attraction is does not always show how amazing it truly is. Take Discovery Cove for example. The high admittance price is a turn off, so tourists often opt for Sea World. The truth is you pay for an all-inclusive experience at a park that is never crowded, as there is a limit set for the number of people who can visit each day. If you skip the swimming with dolphins part of your day, you can have your fun for a much lower fee.
Disney’s Great Movie Ride is also one of the less popular rides, although it features a full-scale replica of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. It might be the huge wizard hat blocking the view or maybe the fact it appeals more to adults, but the 50 audio-animatronics classic movie characters more than justify a visit.
The same goes for the interactive Innoventions exhibit. Fun, educational, challenging, and sporting a Videogame Playground, it still is overlooked by visitors. Educational is not a label that spells popularity, it seems, as the Living with the Land Disney display is also overlooked, despite the Mickey pumpkins!
Hard Rock Café’s Velvet Sessions are also dismissed more often than not. On the last Thursday of each month, we recommend you head to Universal Orlando and check out the live acts. They might be considered classics now, but bands such as The Ramones certainly are worth it. The $25 fee also covers your cocktails and hors d’ouevres, butler-served till 8 pm!
Attractions Only a Drive Away
Kennedy Space Center
Only a short drive from Orlando, the Kennedy Space Center is surprisingly not on every travel itinerary of those visiting the city. This memorial to the space program should be the first place you visit, especially if traveling with your children. Discover the history and future plans for Cape Canaveral, enjoy a close-up tour of the active launch pads and Shuttle Landing Facility, and enjoy the experience of a launch control center’s firing rooms.
Tallahassee Museum Tree To Tree Adventure
I bet you haven’t thought of this one! It’s a drive away from Orlando, and it will have you flying through ziplines and obstacle courses set up across a swamp. It is perfect for children and adrenaline-loving travelers, and you get to relax at the Tallahassee Museum, discovering native Florida wildlife, nature trails, and gardens. Add a solid serving of history and diverse cultural communities and you should be sold!
