Alexandru Ioan Cuza is quite an inspirational character in Romanian history. Seeing a statue of him in Heidelberg was surprising and it had the effect stumbling across a piece of Romania while traveling usually has: it warms my heart! It’s the same when I meet other Romanians (travelers or people living abroad), I spy a Romanian plate on the highway or I hear a Romanian song on a foreign radio station.
