History, ships and warfare enthusiasts will definitely enjoy the new dynamic exhibition launched by the maritime museum Battleship Cove that reenacts the attack on Perl Harbor, an event that pushed the USA into WWII. The new exhibition was scheduled for 2011 as it was the year USA marks the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.
Battleship Cove designed and developed the Pearl Harbor Experience using high tech special effects technology to take visitors back in time to this day in American history, Sunday, December 7, 1941. It brings to life a portion of the Naval complex at Pearl Harbor through the look, feel and sounds of 1941. Battleship Cove tries to turn visitors into virtual eyewitnesses of the events, with the help of planes roaring, machine guns opening fire, exploding bombs and even the torpedo that attached the the USS Massachusetts
“We are immensely proud of being the only historic ship site doing anything like this,” says Executive Director Brad King. “We are introducing an exciting new experience seldom found within the museum world, connecting the audience with those men and women whose lives were permanently changed by the attack.”
The Pearl Harbor Experience is not only designed to entertain, an important goal is to encourage people to learn more about the events and lessons of Pearl Harbor.
“By engaging the audience emotionally in an immersion experience, we hope to inspire them to explore further and visit the Museum’s exhibitions and memorials with a new perspective,” Mr. King added.
Set on the Museum’s waterfront, the Pearl Harbor Experience is included in the general admission fee of the museum and will run several time per day during the summer season.
Battleship Cove is a nonprofit maritime heritage museum, home to five National Historic Landmarks and to the world’s largest and most diverse collection of historic Naval ships. It  is Massachusetts’ official Pearl Harbor Memorial.
