UK travel group UNIGLOBE (through one of the companies they own, CT Business Travel) is the organizer of a challenging charity event, the Mount Kilimanjaro Charity Climb. The climb aims to raise 35000 British pounds which will be donated to an education project in Mwanza, to the north of Tanzania. The project goal is to build a girls’ school residence allowing entire community of girls to receive the education they need to break the cycle of poverty.
The charitable project is managed by Plan, one of the largest child-centred community development organisations in the world, through its “Because I’m a girl” program. Plan helps children and their families in 48 of the poorest countries in the world break the cycle of poverty and its global “Because I’m a girl” campaign was designed to raise awareness for the plight of girls around the world and the unique role they play in the fight against global poverty.
In many countries around the world, girls are denied their rights such as education and healthcare, nourishment and protection — simply because they are girls. But it is proven that investing in girls is a key to eliminating global poverty. By educating girls they will go on to improve the lives of those around them. They will help break the cycle of poverty, not just for themselves, but for their families, communities and nations.
The primary and immediate beneficiaries of this project will be 100 girls. Plan estimates that in the future thousands of girls will benefit from this project, as the residence will be used for years to come for the same educational purposes.
The Mount Kilimanjaro Charity Climb adventure will officialy begin on September 6 with the UNIGLOBE team departing from Heathrow to prepare for the ascent. Those who want to know more about this unconventional charity event or who want to make a donation are invited to visit the official climb site.
