If you thought Tenerife was all about big nights out and long lazy days on the beach, think again. Yes, you’ll find plenty of this on the island’s southern shores around popular resorts like Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. But there’s much, much more to this fabulous island than meets the eye – and we think you’ll like what you see!
Take a look at Wikipedia’s guide on Tenerife for instance. It’s a volcanic island cast out into the Atlantic Ocean just off the west coast of Africa, with some of the most dramatic and spectacular scenery you have ever seen. It’s crowned by the magnificent Mt Teide – a dormant snow-capped volcano that was responsible for much of the island’s rocky terrain and vast solidified lava fields. The mountain range is based in the sprawling National Park, which is a superb place featuring lunar-like landscapes and alpine forests. It’s a great place to come for a picnic – why not hire a car and spend a day exploring its spectacular scenery and wide-open spaces? You can also take a cable car and whizz to the top of the mountain for superb views of the island.
If you’re looking for hotels, don’t just look at the main holiday resorts in the south of the island. These are ideal for a beach-centric stay where you can enjoy plenty of buzz and bustle with like-minded people. But for a chance to experience a different side of Tenerife, why not check out the dramatic west coast, or head north to the lovely towns and villages around Puerto de la Cruz?
For something a little different, try the accommodation options around Puerto de Santiago or Los Gigantes on the west coast. For instance, the Hotel Stil Los Gigantes is one of a number of Tenerife hotels occupying a glorious location on the west coast with fabulous sea views, close to the famous rocky cliffs of Los Gigantes. It’s a great spot to get away from it all and explore a different and altogether more fascinating side of Tenerife.
So, when will you come and discover this Canarian gem?
