Last minute holidays are great fun, the spontaneity, the excitement – it all adds up to a whirlwind break that leaves you breathless. However, I always find the best things are worth saving for, and worth waiting for, and a holiday to the dream destination of Cancun is certainly on that list.
Increasingly more affordable these days, Mexico’s party central resort offers so much to keep its visitors occupied, I’m surprised people aren’t exhausted on leaving! Of course, if you want to relax, head to one of those simply stunning white sand beaches, and kick back.
There are some fantastic hotels in resort, ranging from budget to luxury, and with the lowering price of flying to Cancun these days, this holiday is certainly within reach. Of course, this is a long-haul destination, and that means tiredness, unfortunately. There are ways to cut down on the exhaustion and stress, and they mostly involve getting plenty of sleep beforehand, and making sure your travel plans are quick, easy and cut out the stress. A great way to do this is to pre-book airport parking, meaning the control of getting to the terminal is entirely in your hands. I have recently used Stansted Airport parking with Airparks, and the convenience it added to my travel plans meant the start of my break was so much more laid-back. Cancun has it all, and although we say that about so many destinations, this really is one that earns that title. Shopping is amazing, with huge malls, such as the Forum by the Sea, and the huge retail therapy paradise malls along Bulevar Kukulecan; the beaches are a no-brainer – delicious white sand, blue sea and water-sports to keep everyone splashing; breathtaking diving and snorkelling opportunities, such as at Puerto Morales, where even beginners can get in on the action; wide open spaces in the many eco parks, and of course, all that Mayan history.
A visit to Chichen Itza is a must do, as well as Tulum, for some real-life hints at Mayan life and culture. Camera moments? A total given.
Thankfully, it’s easy to get around Cancun, thanks to the bus network, so there’s no reason not to explore everything this large and buzzing resort has to offer.
Night-life in Cancun is so varied, you’ll find something to suit your degree of wild, whatever point it’s at on the scale! First things first though, let’s talk food. There are so many international restaurants around, catering for all tastes, and most of them can be found in the Hotel Zone. However, you’ve gone all that way, it would be a crime not to try some authentic Mexican food, washed down with a potent Margarita or two!
Cancun is one of those destinations that promises much and delivers even more, all with a sunny disposition, and a guaranteed tan. That long-haul flight will be nothing but a distant memory from the moment you arrive in resort, and those added extras will help make it even more distant.
