Ask anybody to name a building in New York City and there’s a rather good chance that they will name the Empire State Building. While this is an amazing sight to see, many tourists and even locals fail to realize is that there are many other buildings that are worth seeing in this gigantic city. If you’re the type that lives for architecture and enjoy each and every detail of a building, here are five buildings that are a must see in the NYC:
#1 Condé Nast Building
Located in the heart of Times Square, the Condé Nast building is more than 800 feet. Built back in the early 1990s, this building offers state-of-the-art energy conservation systems, making it one of the friendliest buildings for the environment. Noted as the 12th tallest building in the city, Condé Nast features a variety of office space, major retailers and a major magazine publishing company.
#2 Time Warner Center
Completed in 2003, the Time Warner Center stretches more than 750 feet. Equipped with two separate towers made of glass, the Time Warner Center offers high-class residential condos, spacious offices, luxurious retailers and an upscale shopping mall. The complex also is home to CNN studios and a 1,200 seat theater. The two towers are connected by an atrium that have a curving base, making it one of the highest-listed market valued properties in all of New York City.
#3 Brooklyn Museum
Located in the heart of Brooklyn, the Brooklyn Museum has a 19th century feel to it. With large glass and steel structures, the museum sprawls more than 550,000 square feet. Designed to be one of the largest museums in the world, the Brooklyn Museum houses Egyptian antiques, Japanese art and art collections from historical artists such as Edgar Degas and Norman Rockwell. It’s also home to New York City’s second largest art collection, featuring more than a million art pieces.
#4 Chrysler Building
In the heart of Manhattan stands the Chrysler Building that was built back in the early 1930s. It may not be as well-known as the Empire State Building, but boasts some of the best architecture in all of New York City. With a distinctive crown that can be seen in the skyline and enormous gargoyles that sit atop the radiators, the Chrysler Building was once the second tallest building the city, but it has quickly fallen to the number four spot.
#5 Rockefeller Center
Built in the early 1930s, the Rockefeller Center is located between 5th and 6th avenue. Sprawling more than 20 acres, this building was declared a historical landmark in 1987. Primilary housing office space, this building is famous for housing the major television network, NBC. The Rockefeller Center is the 8th tallest building in all of New York City.
