Overshadowed by the more popular Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos is one of Mexico’s best kept secrets. Despite the myriad of activities, things to see, and delicious cuisine, this destination is still virtually unknown. Perfect for beach holidays, adventure lovers, nature enthusiasts, and history aficionados alike, this exotic location is peppered with hotels, bars, restaurants, private beaches, and exotic spas. While you can pick from anything Puerto Morelos hotels have to offer, the less popular status of this resort will put a significantly lower dent into your budget.

To help you plan your Mexican getaway, here’s a quick look at the Puerto Morelos top attractions and activities that you should add to your itinerary:
Where to Eat
When you’re done indulging at your all-inclusive resort, it’s time to explore the restaurants of Puerto Morelos. You can indulge with the most luxurious dining experience, choose a mid-priced restaurant, or go for the budget eateries. La Marina El Cid is your best bet for reasonably priced sea food that will make you want to lick your fingers, Terraza is the go to spot for vegetarians, Los Pelicanos is where you can enjoy the beachfront view and unpretentious yet delicious nachos, and Posada Amor is said to serve the best ceviche in town, along with other Mexican delights.
What to See
Even if you are not there for the beaches, you should definitely have a stroll down the white sand. The views are breathtaking, the sand is warm, and the Caribbean Sea is always inviting. If you are a nature lover, Jardin Botanico should be high on your list. While the flora should be the main attraction, it’s really the spider monkeys who often steal the show. To add a little adrenaline to your nature experience, go to Crococun Zoo and walk among the crocodiles. Or take a more mundane approach and do some bird watching in the mangroves.
What to Do
Swimming is only the start in Puerto Morelos. Snorkeling, scuba diving, and the less known SNUBA–a deeper, longer lasting version of snorkeling, where your air supply is stored on a raft above water–will allow you to enjoy the colorful underwater world of this region. If you go fo diving, we recommend reef diving as the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef is only five hundred meters off shore. To mix it up, take a tour of the cenotes and swim in these impressive sinkholes and enjoy the clear water.
For a bit of an unusual activity, try The Little Mexican Cooking School to enjoy a day of fun in the kitchen while learning how to prepare your favorite Mexican dishes. Another option would be the Jungle Spa to enjoy an authentic Mayan massage.
Where to Party
Partying in Puerto Morales, while colorful, is a lot more laid back and less glamorous. Don your flip-flops and comfortable clothes, then head to either a club or one of the popular bars, such as Bara Bara, La Sirena, Posada Amor, or Unico Beach Club. A night out is quite authentic as locals and tourists will always come together to enjoy a drink.
