It’s meant to be one of those getaways where all of life’s stress suddenly evaporate. Unfortunately, it seldom happens like that.
This is what a typical “relaxing” getaway tends to look like for the Average Joe; it’s anything but relaxing.
While we can’t wave a magic wand to make all such stresses disappear in definitely, there are some steps you can take to at least maximise the chances of your next relaxing trip being a little less manic. Let’s now take a look at some of these tips in detail.
Avoid the tourist hotspots
When you first plan one of these trips away, it can be tempting to go through a bucket list of attractions. However, before you press ahead and start making reservations, hold fire.
Sure, some cities have some of the best attractions in the world, and it might feel as though you are severely missing out by not visiting them. However, if you do take to somewhere like London, you’ll quickly find that these attractions are home to umpteen thousand tourists and all the stress that accompanies them.
This is the exact opposite of what your relaxing vacation is about. As such, avoid the key attraction sites, and instead opt for quieter surroundings. For example,Liverpool is still an exciting city but has a wave of good hotels where you can make the most of your relaxing time away.
Leave the phone at home
Of course, you might not be able to leave your phone at home, but hopefully you get the point with this next suggestion.
As a nation, countless studies have concluded that we are far too addicted to our phones. This,of course, has its own repercussions in everyday life, but when it comes to your relaxing getaway, the implications are simply multiplied.
Suddenly, you are engrossed in your cell phone, rather than your travel companion. You don’t have time to switch off and relax so to speak, and this is all due to the small electrical device that you have become significantly reliant upon.
Try and leave it at your hotel, or at least turn off your work emails and social media.
Stop with the schedules
The hectic rigours of day-to-day life mean that we all seem to insist on some form of schedule. This doesn’t necessarily relate to the workplace either – but now it also stretches to vacations.
Of course, this is just asking for stress. Darting around from one location to another, trying to fit with predetermined timings, is hardly asking for a relaxing time away.
As such, throw such schedules out of the window. Simply go with the flow, and feel how much easier your trip becomes.
…You still need to research your destination
However, following on from the above, you still need to invest atleast a degree of research into your destination of choice. The last thing you want is to arrive, only to realise that you don’t have a clue what you are going to do for the duration of your visit.
Sure, this research doesn’t have to be endless, but at least have a rough idea of what is available to do to avoid stress in this regard.
