Every country has unique experiences for you to discover, but few have as many varied activities for you to enjoy as Peru. What are some of the most intriguing ways of exploring this South American country you might be interested in?

Hiking to Machu Picchu

Cusco was the center of the Inca Empire and sits at 11,200 ft above sea level. The city has a rich history and, according to the Discover Peru website, it’s visited by about 1.5 million tourists every day. Many come here with the idea of visiting the mysterious once-lost city of Machu Picchu high in the Andes, but not everyone knows it’s possible to reach this iconic spot on a multi-day hike too.

The Inca Trail followed an ancient path carved out by this civilisation in the 15th century. It’s been featured in different types of mainstream entertainment such as when Che Guevara arrives there in 2004’s The Motorcycle Diaries and Gloria Estefan’s Wrapped video which was shot in this legendary location. We can also find Slingo Inca Trail among the Slingo bingo games available online. The gameplay is a cross between slots and bingo, with the playing area set in the Peruvian jungle and an Inca Trail bonus round to complete.

Flying Over the Nazca Symbols

The city of Nazca sits in the desert of the same name in Southern Peru. It’s regarded as one of the driest places on Earth, but it attracts tourists from all over the planet for a different reason. The intriguing Nazca Lines are shapes drawn into the desert floor that have baffled scientists for years due to their size and preciseness.

Flying over the lines on a short chartered flight is the best way to see famous shapes such as the monkey, the astronaut and the spider. The fact that there is still no definitive answer as to why these lines were created is part of the appeal of Nazca. Some theories have even suggested an extra-terrestrial origin.

Sandboarding in a Desert Oasis

Sandboarding is an extreme sport that’s a lot like snowboarding but is done over sandy dunes. It’s carried out in different parts of the world and Peru is one of the most exhilarating options for anyone wanting to give it a try. The town of Ica is surrounded by giant dunes, with Duna Grande the second-biggest dune in the world.

This has led to tourist agencies taking visitors out to try sandboarding on short trips from Ica. The most famous spot for doing this is called Huacachina, where a small village and several tourist attractions have sprung up around an oasis with mud that’s used for therapeutic bathing. Only about a hundred people live here but tens of thousands of tourists visit Huacachina each year.

These unique ideas provide some unforgettable ways of getting to see the best of Peru while doing something you’re unlikely to get the chance to do anywhere else.
