Traditional Motorcycle Routes Presented

Route 66 is without a doubt one of the most beautiful motorcycle tours through the United States and a dream for many bikers. Spanning more than 3,900 kilometers, it shows the U.S. from one of its most unusual sides. However, similar experiences can also be found in Italy, Germany, Scotland or Romania.

Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles

Every year, thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts set off and cross the desert landscapes of Arizona and New Mexico. They ride along Route 66 under the blazing American sun, discovering small nostalgic towns and experiencing the solitude of the open road.

Anyone planning this journey will need not only endurance in the saddle, but also around 20 days. To enjoy the more than 3,900 kilometers at a relaxed pace, the period between April and June as well as September and October is particularly recommended. During the other months, the sun can be so intense that riding becomes a real challenge. Such vintage rides are especially enjoyable on cruisers (such as Harley-type motorcycles) or touring bikes.

Stelvio Pass for Lovers of Curves

The approximately 25-kilometer-long mountain pass road in Italy is demanding and a true classic among motorcycle fans. At the Stelvio Pass, riders climb with a total of 48 tight hairpin bends, most of which are located on the famous northern ramp. The road winds its way up to an altitude of 2,757 meters, overcoming a height difference of around 1,800 meters.

In some sections, the route features steep gradients of up to ten percent, which require full concentration and precise riding technique, especially on the descent. This route is particularly suitable for naked bikes and sport motorcycles. Riders should be very familiar with their machines and confident in handling challenging road conditions.

The ideal travel period for this high-alpine landscape is from June to September. During these months, temperatures are pleasant and precipitation is minimal. Those who travel later in the year must expect additional challenges caused by rain or even strong gusts of wind. However, the summer months bring another factor to consider: tourists. Traffic levels are significantly higher, requiring extra caution from motorcyclists.

Romantic Road with a Medieval Atmosphere

Motorcyclists interested in history will feel right at home on Germany’s Romantic Road. Starting in Würzburg, the route covers around 460 kilometers to Füssen in the Allgäu region. A travel time of three to five days is recommended.

It is well worth stopping in the many towns along the route to stroll through medieval streets and enjoy the architecture. Würzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl, Augsburg, Landsberg am Lech and Füssen all offer plenty to explore. The best time to travel is from May to September, when the weather is mild and all attractions are open. Thanks to its moderate roads, this route is also suitable for beginners and especially for riders who enjoy relaxed touring and cultural experiences.

North Coast 500 Through the Scottish Highlands

Over approximately 830 kilometers, motorcycle enthusiasts are guided along the North Coast 500 through the Scottish Highlands. The route follows the rugged coastline and the wide green landscapes of the country. Numerous castles and mysterious old houses await riders along the way as recurring highlights.

This tour is something special for anyone who loves adventure and is not discouraged by wind or changing weather conditions. From May to August, temperatures are moderate, but even during these months the weather can change within just a few hours. Rain, fog and strong gusts of wind are part of the North Coast 500 and contribute to the character of the route. Those who are prepared and bring weatherproof clothing are rewarded with intense nature experiences and lightly traveled roads.

Transfăgărășan Attracts With a Steep Layout

The spectacular altitude is what makes the Transfăgărășan so special. In places, the road climbs to over 2,000 meters above sea level, offering dramatic views of the Carpathian Mountains. Dozens of tight curves and hairpin bends demand everything from riders, but reward them with a unique riding experience that combines technical skill, concentration and a powerful connection to nature. The road winds through rugged rock formations, past deep valleys and steep slopes, revealing new panoramic views around every bend.

The Transfăgărășan is particularly impressive at the pass summit near Lake Bâlea, where all the effort seems worthwhile. Due to extreme weather conditions, the road is only open during the summer months, usually from July to September. For the rest of the year, snow and the risk of avalanches make the route impassable. Even during the official summer season, sudden temperature drops and weather changes are possible. Riders should therefore pack sufficient spare clothing, ideally following a layered approach.
