Lighthouse
The Lighthouse is a must-see while visiting Maspalomas. Situated on the seafront behind the town beach, the Lighthouse is a short walk away from most hotels. The Maspalomas Lighthouse was built in the late 1800s. The Maspalomas dunes are a unique symbol of the area, whereas the Lighthouse itself is historic. The construction began in 1884 and was completed in 1889. The Lighthouse became operational in 1890.
Maspalomas has a few beaches, including the famous Playa del Ingles. Unlike many other deserts, Maspalomas dunes are not as old as some of the others, but scientists believe that they formed after a 1750s tsunami. Even though early maps of the area didn’t include these dunes, they have not diminished over time and remain one of the most beautiful sights in the town.
