The West Coast of the United States offers a wide range of climates and natural diversity. Between the deserts of Arizona, beaches of Southern California, high mountain lakes of Nevada, lush green mountain forests of Oregon, and the surprisingly warm, humid climate of Puget sound, there’s something for any visitor to America’s West.
Phoenix, Arizona
Phoenix is one of America’s biggest metropolitan areas, yet also one of the most underrated. ThePhoenix metropolitan area is over 2000 square miles, and includes the cities of Phoenix, Chandler, Mesa, Tempe, Glendale, and Scottsdale. You can find a wide range of activities in the region, from desert hiking to Old-West charm, vibrant university nightlife to luxury resorts and high-end shopping. While summer temperatures often soar into the triple digits, there are plenty of activities to keep you cool.
Stateline, Nevada
If you’re looking to visit the southern shores of Lake Tahoe, Stateline, Nevada may be just the place for you to stay. Whether you’re there for winter skiing, summer water activities, or a visit to one of Stateline’s five Lake Tahoe casinos, Stateline has lodging options that are perfect for every visitor. South Lake Tahoe is only a few minutes away, or you can also explore Nevada’s capital in nearby Carson City.
Chula Vista, California
Chula Vista is located on the southern shores of San Diego bay, and offers a number of affordableSan Diego lodging options. Chula Vista is perfectly situated as a base for a visit to San Diego, with easy access to the beaches, Downtown, Coronado Island, Sea World, San Diego Old Town, or the San Diego Zoo. You can also head down into Mexico for a day trip to visit the wineries of Ensanada or the beaches of Baja California. Chula Vista is located midway in between Downtown San Diego and the Mexican border. With a year-round average temperature of 72 degrees and less than 10 inches of rain per year, the weather is almost always perfect!
Bend, Oregon
Located on the Deschutes River, around three hours south of Portland, Bend is one of the most scenic smaller cities in the Western US. Bend is located in the Cascades Mountains of Oregon, and is a popular destination for outdoor adventure seekers. Skiers, hikers, and mountain bikers flock to the city throughout the year, and Bend is also known for one of the most vibrant craft beer scenes in America. Stay in one of Bend’s diverse lodging options and take advantage of everything the city has to offer.
SeaTac, Washington
Located between Seattle and Tacoma, SeaTac is home to the Seattle-Tacoma Airport, and offers some of the most affordable lodging in the Seattle area. SeaTac is an excellent base if you wish to explore Seattle, Tacoma, Mt. Rainier National Park, or Puget Sound. From your base in SeaTac, you can take the Link light rail into Seattle, where you can explore one of the most vibrant cities on America’s West Coast. And only a 30-minute drive away is Woodinville, where you’ll find some of Washington State’s best wineries.
