Taiwan is running a complex campaign to attract tourists from the Philippines and get them to pick this specific country as their preferred vacation spot. Taiwan implemented special visa requirements for Filipinos, making it easier for them to travel to the island and the Taiwan Visitors Association organized a Familiarization tour for travel agents from the Philippines.
No less than 80 travel agents signed up for the tour organized in mid-November. The Familiarization Tour targeted members of the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) and facilitated their visit to famous landmarks such as the Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Yangminshan Park, Sun Moon Lake, and many night markets and amusement parks. Participants also got a taste of Taiwan’s delicacies – dumplings from Ding Tai Fung and other street eats. To make sure the tour attendees also got a chance to relax, the sample trip also included a tour of Taiwanese hot springs.
With the top attractions clearly marked, Filipinos only needed an easy way to travel to Taiwan. Thus the authorities implemented a special visa waiver for Filipino tourists with a valid visa to the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the Schengen countries, making it easier for Philippine citizens to travel to Taiwan. The new visa rules mostly target leisure tourists, and not those coming to study or work in Taiwan.
