Brazil Uses New Rio Animation as Tourism Booster

Movies sell travel destination and Brazil authorities are quite aware of that. That is why they plan to use the global release of the Rio 3-D animation to promote the country as an appealing tourist destination.

The Brazilian tourism board Embratur said the promotional campaign will feature a video, “Brazil Calls You. Celebrate Life Here”, which will be aired before the film screenings around the world during the next weekend, the debut weekend of Rio, a month after the Brazilian release.

The video showcases Brazil’s main tourist sites and attractions. According to the official Embratur statement, the promotional video supporting Brazil tourism will be shown in 250 movie theatres in Latin America, Europe and the United States.

Directed by Carlos Saldanha and featuring major stars – Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and George Lopez – as voices of the animated characters, Rio tells the story of Blu, a domesticated macaw living in small-town Minnesota. Blu meets Jewel, his independent, adventurous friend that takes him on a thrilling adventure through Rio de Janeiro.
