7 Ways to Stay Occupied in an Airport

Traveling abroad or within the United States is always a great experience but sometimes when you’re bound for really far-off places, you don’t have any other choice but to go on connecting flights. What happens now when you have to spend more than five hours at the airport while waiting for your next flight? Here are some things you can do to keep yourself occupied.

Read a Book

A good activity you can do to keep yourself occupied at the airport is to read a good book that you’ve been meaning to read. This way, not only will you be able to let time pass by quickly, you will also be able to accomplish something you never had the time to do in the past. If you have a Kindle, Nook or some other eReader, be sure to load your book up with a couple, just in case you have downtime. All airports have chargers, so you don’t have to worry about your eReader dying.

Squeeze In Some Work

Although vacations are time for you to forget about your work temporarily, let’s face it. Some people just can’t resist not doing it when their other option is just to stare emptily against the wall. So to kill time at the airport, why don’t you open your laptop and do some work. At least, this can help make you be productive. Again, not all of you can work on the road, and that’s okay! That is just one of my many suggestions.

Shop for Souvenir Items

If you do not have anything else to do, why don’t you grab a few souvenir items? This is always a great idea especially if you are waiting at the airport just for a connecting flight. This way, you will have a souvenir to remind you that you were once in that particular country. Keep in mind that some stores can be expensive. Keep your eyes peeled for some special sales. Some airports such as Atlanta and LAX could keep you busy for hours, due to its size.

Dine

Another great thing to do while you’re at the airport is to enjoy a nice meal. Make it a point to try restaurants you’ve haven eaten at before. Likely, it’s always a great idea to try out signature treats or local delicacies only offered in specific countries. If you don’t know where to eat, consider booting up a phone app such as UrbanSpoon. Try to find a nice sit-down restaurant and enjoy a meal for an hour or so.

Interact with People

Chances are, while you’re at the airport, you will find some people who are just like you — searching for things to do to keep them occupied. So why don’t you try to interact with these people and simply talk about trivial things? When you do, you will find that time passes by rather quickly especially if the topic of your conversation is truly interesting. A great place to find these people are at the airport bars. Grab a drink and enjoy yourself for a few hours.

Go Online

If there’s nothing to do, why don’t you go online and check your email? Keep your statuses on various social networking platforms updated, too. This way, you would be able to keep your family and friends posted on your whereabouts. Also, going on line can let time pass quickly because there’s just so many things you can do there. Today, there are so many airports that offer free WiFi. If you have a device that can connect, which I’m sure you do, the Internet can keep you entertained for hours.

Listen to Music or Watch Videos

Another great option is to listen to music or to watch videos. These things can take hours and the next thing you know your flight is finally there and you’re ready to go.

Chances are, these seven wonderful tips on how to keep yourself occupied are more than enough to really help you get occupied at the airport. The next time you have a delay or a connecting flight, be sure to keep these tips in mind!
