National Geographic Channel “Off The Map” Instagram Contest
Coinciding with the new brand campaign “The Places We Take You Aren’t Just on the Map”, the National Geographic Channel launches the “Off The Map” inviting travellers, explorers and photographers to show them their favourite places.
NGC’s new brand campaign can be viewed at www.natgeotv.com/theplaceswetakeyou, while the contest is an open invite to people to discover their inner photographer and to share their special places.
Starting May 13, all those interested in joining the contest with the tagline “The places we take you aren’t just on the map” should post photos on Instagram using the hashtag #NGCTakesYou. Photos can be submitted until July 1. Read more…
The National Quilt Museum Wows 110,000 People Every Year
It’s not photography, oil paintings or other objects as you might first think: there are just many amazing quilts. 40,000 annual visitors come to see the impressive pieces at the National Quilt Museum, and if you add the traveling exhibitions, this form of art delights over  110,000 people every year. 27,000 square feet of exhibit space located in historic downtown Paducah, Kentucky and dedicated to one type of items: quilts and fiber art.
“If not already a believer, everyone who visits the museum leaves converted as to the magnificence behind the museum’s many masterpieces,” says Museum CEO Frank Bennett . “What’s more, he says, they come away with a new sense of respect for what’s been one of the most misunderstood, yet growing art forms in the world.” Read more…
The Franklin Institute Launches SPY: The Secret World of Espionage Exhibition
Starting Saturday, May 4, and only for a limited time, The Franklin Institute Opens a really interesting exhibition: SPY: The Secret World of Espionage. All the espionage fans or simply curious people wishing to see some rare objects – and even some for the first time exhibited! – from famous agencies such as the CIA, the FBI, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), as well as the impressive private collection of intelligence historian H. Keith Melton, are invited until October 6 at the Mandell Center at The Franklin Institute. Visitors will discover over 200 historical artifacts and authentic espionage-related gadgets from CIA, including the scripts and studio documents from the real life mission that inspired the Academy Award winning film, Argo.

Melton has just published Spy Sites of Philadelphia, a book that allows readers to find out more from two and a half centuries about this fascinating world of espionage. Read more…

40,000 People Compete for Australia’s Six “Best Jobs in the World”
What better way to boost interest in a country’s tourism than organizing a world-wide competition for the best jobs in the world? Based on the 40,000 applications submitted to Australia’s tourism board, they struck gold with the “Best Jobs in the World” campaign! Tourism officials will now have to select 18 finalists for the six-month positions which include  ”Outback Adventurer” and “Chief Funster”.

The six winner will be selected after having finalist flown to Australia for their interviews and will be paid A$100,000 ($105,400) to attend parties, experience the Australian wild life and other such activities that seem worlds apart from a boring job. To be considered for the best jobs in the world, applicants needed to submit a 30-second video explaining why they would be good for the jobs. Quirky videos including pillow fights, a man dancing in the subway in his underwear, and water sports were part of the submissions. Read more…
