More British Couples Switch to Group Holidays

More and more British Couples are booking group holidays to enjoy with their families and friends, showing a preference for such vacations over traditional couple’s trips, according to a recent travel survey by Travelsoon.com. The number of British couples choosing to book a vacation for themselves has dropped by 7% in 2010, while at the same time group holiday bookings were up 12%.

This new vacation booking trend was reveled by a survey conducted on over 1700 UK travelers currently in a relationship.

“This poll has found that more British couples are choosing to holiday with the people closest to them, such as family and friends, with 32% of respondents saying that they would be going on holiday with their family and their partner,” said Luke Nathan of Travelsoon.com. “ A further 26% stated that they were going on holiday with friends and their other half, which compared to just 16% of respondents saying that they are going on holiday with ‘just my partner’ shows that more people are shunning traditional couples’ holidays and opting to make their trip more of a social affair.”

Another interesting trend revealed by the survey is that people in relationships need time on their own – 14% or respondents said they were traveling just with friends, and another 6% showed preference for family holidays that do not include their partners.

The couples opting for friends or family vacations chose this holiday arrangement mainly for budgetary reasons. 24% said they had spent more on their holiday bookings as a group than as a couple. Only 11% said they opted for family holidays due to a personal preference.

“The results of this survey are very surprising, because a lot of people assume that going on holiday with your partner is a very popular thing to do these days. However this study shows that the reality is very different for some people, and factors such as cost, and their partner’s availability, show that some travellers either can’t or don’t want to go on holiday with their other half,” added Nathan.
