The Kruger Park will have come out of winter, making for warmer game drives and excellent viewing opportunities. Open vehicle game drives at 5am in winter can be a very chilling experience and not ideal for everyone, the warmer months of August and September however are perfect.

The major attraction in the Kruger Park is of course The Big 5. This is Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard. There are few places in Africa as good as the Kruger Park to view all these majestic animals in one location. This is due to the large concentration of Leopard in the park.

The Serengeti in Tanzania is home to one of the most breathtaking spectacles in nature, The Great Wildebeest Migration. The massive migration of large herds of Wildebeest and Zebra, followed by predators like Lion, is a year round occurrence. The best time to view it however is in August.

August is the time of the year when the Wildebeest have their young. This happens in the northern part of the park and is ideal for game viewing. The migration is difficult to tie to one location as the animals move according to the rainfall. The August month however, or birthing month, means the young cannot move on before they have built up enough strength to complete the journey. This gives you a four to six week window to view them in one fixed location.

The large herds can be seen across the plains of the Serengeti, closely followed by prides of lion and other predators who feed on them. For more information on this truly unique African adventure, consult a safari expert like who can assist with all your travel requirements.
